What colour will feature in your next set of curtains? Will you stick to neutrals when its time to reupholster those old couches and chairs or will you be bold with bright colours like yellow’s and orange’s when replacing those old fulthy scatters. Pantone, the world’s leading commercial color think tank, have receintly announced the top color choices for 2014. From now until beginning of December they will be voicing their opinion for the top spot. As you can see from the Pantone’s color pallet above they have mixed pastels with brights which is a little unusual. I very much doubt we’ll see the tan or grey as color of the year because I don’t ever recall Pantoneselecting a neutral.
I guess now you’re wondering what that has to do with you? Well, for one thing you will probably be wearing the top picks because fashion houses, designers and factories all over the world use Pantone’s to systemize their color process.
The colors Pantone has selected are for apparel fashion, however, a few of the colors selected will make it into home interiors.
In 2012 Tangerine Tango, an orangey red, was selected and we still see orange as a pretty strong color in home decor, especially accents. Hues evolve over time, for instance this summer we saw a lot of coral which is a fabulous mix of orange and pink.

Notice there have been quite a few versions of reds and greens. So looking at the top choices and adding in my own personal agenda, I’m voting for the Cobalt blue hue, which Pantone calls Dazzling Blue. I think its time there was another blue in the line-up and this particular hue can easily adapt itself to commercial commodities in home decor and, who doesn’t like blue?
Below are some ways cobalt blue can work beautifully in home decor.
